A horse’s head was smashed with a hammer in a brutal attack.
Vets are now desperate to save the 13-year-old from being permanent paralysed.
The attacker crept into the paddock and knifed the horse from its eyes and across his shoulder.
The black and white trotter-cross, called Domino, was discovered by his owner.
Injured and terrified, Domino was rushed to the nearest vet.
Authorities are now warning owners to make sure their horses in the Buckinghamshire region are safe.
Police are hunting for the attacker after the Milton Keynes incident was reported to them.
Thames Valley PC David Spencer said: ‘This was a violent attack on a horse which has sustained appalling injuries.
‘Clearly this will have caused a high degree of suffering and distress to the horse.
‘Access to the paddocks can only be gained via footpaths, and the closest road is the H7 and Newport Road.’
Friends of the owner, Tracey Nash, are fundraising for Domino’s medical care because the horse was not insured.
Despite four hours of surgery, Ms Nash now fears that her beloved horse will be paralysed for life.
More than £10,000 has already been raised for the veterinary costs and you can donate to the appeal here.
